Otto Bock Redesigns 3R80 Knee

5/11/2007

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA May 11, 2007 – Otto Bock unveiled the new 3R80 rotary hydraulic knee joint today. Several improvements have been incorporated making it easier to fit than the original model with simple adjustments to help provide better outcomes for the user.

The 3R80 was originally introduced 10 years ago and has been a popular choice for users who require a high activity knee joint. By revising the hydraulic swing phase control, the new knee makes it easier for amputees to initiate flexion for swing phase while walking at any speed.

“I am thrilled to bring the new 3R80 to market,” said Kristen Knox, Otto Bock prosthetics market manager. “The 3R80 is Otto Bock’s answer to the outdated, mechanical cylinder hydraulic units on the market. It is appropriate for the same group of patients yet offers many benefits including progressive dampening.”

The new model accommodates patients who weigh up to 275 pounds, up from 220 pounds in the original version. The redesign also incorporates simple adjustment options and new swing phase control with progressive dampening.
