The C-LEG® SHIN SYSTEM NOW AVAILABLE FOR A GREATER NUMBER OF AMPUTEES

3/6/2002

In an ongoing effort to ensure the revolutionary C-Leg® can be utilized by as many amputees as possible, Otto Bock Health Care has increased the C-Leg weight limit and qualified the LuXon® Max prosthetic foot for use with the C-Leg. Once the new weight limit of 275 lbs. was verified, Otto Bock was able to test and qualify the first Springlite™ brand foot, the LuXon Max, for use with the C-Leg. The LuXon Max foot is an ideal candidate for the C-Leg because it is rated to 275 lbs. and has a lower profile allowing for greater clearance.

These changes mean that the C-Leg/LuXon Max combination is suitable for moderate or high activity patients up to 220 lbs. For patients of moderate activity only, the weight rating of this combination is extended to 275 lbs.

“Because the LuXon Max and the C-Leg are both popular advanced-technology products, we wanted to offer our customers the best of both worlds,” says Pat Chelf, Vice President of Marketing for Otto Bock. “Now that our Technology Center in Vienna has qualified the pairing, we are able to provide our customers with more choices and more flexibility in product selection.”

The LuXon Max is now one of five options available for use with the C-Leg. Otto Bock’s other qualified feet include the 1C40 C-Walk, 1D25 Dynamic Plus, 1A30 Greissinger Plus, and 1D10/1D11 Dynamic foot.

The LuXon™ Max consists of high-tech carbon fiber plates bonded together with flexible, durable LuXon™ material, providing cushioning and stability, greater resiliency, reduced energy loss and expanded range of motion. The distinct smooth-impact split heel and forefoot enables natural, independent pivot motion of toe and heel, while the independent forefoot provides more comfortable, stable flexion from side to side on uneven terrain. The unequaled absorptive properties of LuXon™ provide better cushioning with every step for the cushioned ride every amputee deserves.
