One of PAULA’s goals is to support the prosthetist at the best. Through a photometric process, PAULA creates a test socket according to the patient’s data, whose 3D-model is the basis for the following milling model.

Socket design is an essential criterion for the functionality of the prosthesis and patient satisfaction, because functionality and satisfaction are reflected by fitting quality. PAULA was created to support the prosthetist and to improve the quality of patient’s socket shape and fit.
An integrated function of PAULA completes a digital photo data of the transradial residual limb with relevant patient data. It calculates the optimal shape of a test socket. Modeling and further processing are done with the aid of the software and require skills and expertise from the prosthetist. Finally, the prosthetist determines the parameters for an individual socket design.

The 3D image visualizes the residual limb and forms the basis for the milling model that the Service Fabrication Department of Otto Bock will make in computer-aided manufacturing. The prosthetist can decide, whether he wants to order only the milling model or the test socket, vacuum formed from ThermoLyn® and completed with all components and cabling.
