Choosing a Prosthetic Foot

What goes into making one prosthetic foot different from another? It’s important to work with your prosthetist to discuss all of your options. Some feet will not function well for your lifestyle, so it will help to have a clear idea of what types of demands you will place on your foot.

Prosthetic feet are categorized by the user’s activity level. The top of the range is feet for very active people who regularly engage in physically demanding activities. These feet need to respond for a person who routinely changes walking speeds or even runs.

Other feet are designed for more moderate activities. These feet can accommodate you speeding up or slowing down but won’t provide the response you need for running.

There are also feet designed for people who lead a more cautious lifestyle. These prosthetic feet are designed for maximum stability but will not function well if you need to speed up.

In order to deliver on our promise of Quality for Life, Otto Bock puts all of our feet through rigorous testing to ensure each foot will live up to the standards you need. We even offer feet that function better for people with above-knee limb loss.
