Ottobock launches two new Kimba® Seats for children

AUSTIN, Texas (June 5, 2017) – Ottobock Healthcare has launched an extension to the Kimba family of seating – the all new Kimba Seat and Neo MPS Seat.

For over 15 years, Kimba has been a family and therapist favorite. Ottobock continues to innovate and re-imagine the Kimba line of products to enhance the customer experience and realize better patient outcomes.

“Stroller-style wheelchairs are often misunderstood in the wheelchair mobility market. Funding agencies believe there is limited growth potential and clinicians have found the clinical seating principles lacking,” shared Stacy Clouse, Ottobock North American Market Manager for Pediatrics. “When we started the R&D process to enhance our seating offerings for the Kimba line of products, we wanted to make sure pelvic stability and patient outcomes were the cornerstone around which we built a more user-friendly and adaptable product families will connect with. I believe we achieved it.”

The Kimba and Neo MPS seats provide optimal pelvic stability through strategically located mounting points that ensure a 60-90 degree pull across a child’s legs and pelvis, and under their anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS). Ottobock, being a specialist in foam manufacturing, utilized their highly durable OBSSTM foam in the seat cushions to provide better patient comfort and load distribution. Additionally, the height and depth of armrests are adjustable to promote better upper extremity positioning and assist in weight distribution and activities of daily living.

Belts and harnesses can also be quickly released and adjusted to provide better positioning and easier child care. Tool-less adjustability with wing-style knobs make headrest and seating adjustments simple. Finally, with “00 Inlay” and a new high mount footplate, smaller children with 5” seat depth and 5” lower leg length can be accommodated with the new seating.

“Ottobock continues to innovate and raise the standard of care in pediatric mobility,” stated Frank Oschell, Vice President of Human Mobility for Ottobock North America. “The Kimba and Neo MPS seats will provide the stability and comfort a child needs. Additionally, families will love how easy it is to make adjustments as the needs of the child change throughout the day.”

The smallest of children to the largest of children experiencing mild to complex positioning needs can find a solution in the Kimba range of seating. The Kimba and Neo MPS seats are now available in the United States and Canada. They are designed for use with the Kimba Neo Pediatric Tilt n Space Wheelchair in addition to the range of indoor positioning bases and outdoor Kimba Cross jogging/bike frame.
