Functional & Aluminum Wrist Stays

Otto Bock has developed a unique series of stays for wrist stabilization. These Functional Wrist Stays are made of thermoplastic material to provide more functional stability than traditional metal stays. They are pre-shaped with 10-20° of extension and can be adjusted by immersing in hot water. If the stay is completely reheated for 1-2 minutes, its built-in memory will enable it to return to its original 10-20° position. They are color-coded to differentiate the three levels of stability.

All stays are sold in 5-packs.

Yellow	Low Stability, soft	No. 4002
Red	Medium stability, firm	No. 4000
Blue	High stability, rigid	No. 4001

Instructions For The Functional Wrist Stays

To adjust the stay, place it in a cup filled with hot water (180-200°F). Make sure the area of the stay to be adjusted is fully immersed in water.

Wait 45 seconds to one minute for the stay to soften before carefully removing it from the water.
Avoid burn injuries!
Be careful when using hot water!

Adjust the stay as desired and immerse it in cold water for 30 seconds to set the position. Once cooled, fit the stay on the patient.
Never apply a hot stay directly to the patient's skin.
If it's necessary to make adjustments with the stay on the patient, use a stockinette to cover the skin.

If further adjustments are necessary, make sure to only heat the part of the stay that needs to be adjusted. The stays have a built-in memory; if fully reheated, they will go back to their original 10-20° position.
