Instructions For 7175 Malleoform Ankle Support
- Choose the appropriate size based on the measurements listed above and test the support on the patient. The hook & loop closure should overlap slightly.
- Place the plastic insert in the fabric pocket, making sure it is fully inserted.
- Open the pocket slightly and pour in hot water (170° - 180°F). Wait 1-2 minutes for the plastic to soften before removing it from the water. This may require tilting the support to be sure there is uniform heating and softening.
Warning: Be careful not to burn yourself when working with the hot water!
- Pour the water out of the pocket and place the support on a towel.
- Carefully blot the insert with the towel to remove the moisture. Important: pressing too hard may make it difficult to remold the plastic. Heavy pressure may also cause the plastic to bond to the Thermoprene™ material.
- Once the support has cooled enough to be applied directly to the skin, apply it to the patient. The patient's ankle should be kept at a 90° angle. Close the hook & loop closures, starting at the toe and working up.
- For best results, the patient should also put on their shoe so the support conforms to both their ankle and shoe.
- Wait 4-5 minutes for the plastic to set. To accelerate the cooling process, a cold pack can be placed next to the support.
- For extra support, add the loop side of the extra strap as an extension strap. Wrap this strap around the ankle, over the top of the foot, under the arch and re-attach at the top.
- If remolding is required, remove the support and pull open both sides of the insert pocket. Reshape the insert beginning with Step #1.
