Instructions For 4084/4085/4086 Thumboform™

  1. Verify the proper size by trying the splint on the patient.

  2. Place the thermoplastic insert (A) into the pocket of the brace (B).

  3. Pour hot water (170° - 180° F) into the pocket; one cup is normally enough. Fill up the pocket completely and wait for about one minute, making sure that the plastic has turned soft. Warning: Be careful when pouring the hot water into the pocket.

  4. Pour the water out of the pocket. Place the support flat inside a folded towel and blot it carefully to remove the moisture. Important: Do not apply the support to the patient when it's soaking wet as it might lead to a burn injury. Patients with sensitive skin should wear a stockinette during the application.

  5. Tighten the thumb strap and apply the support over the thumb. Then tighten the wrist strap, pressing slightly over the thenar muscle to get a good fit. Don't press too hard as that might cause pressure marks in the plastic.

  6. It takes 3-4 minutes for the plastic to set. The patient should keep the support on during that time for best results. If adjustments are needed, let the support cool completely before pulling open the pocket. Start over from step #3.
