It also includes thumb abduction support with a flexible steel spring in the thumb area. For volar side support, the thermoadjustable 4000 Functional Wrist Stay in medium stability (red) is also included. How to Apply the 4025 Rheuma Wrist & Thumb Support:

  1. Choose the appropriate size and test it on the patient to ensure a good fit.

  2. Open the thumb piece completely.

  3. Attach the hook & loop closures which are located on the dorsal side for easy use. Note that the double stitching on the ends of the loop straps prevents them from pulling free.

  4. To adjust the stay, place it in a cup filled with hot water (170° - 180°F), making sure the area to be adjusted is fully immersed. Wait 45-60 seconds for the stay to soften before removing it from the water. Avoid burn injuries! Be careful when using hot water!

  5. Adjust the stay as desired, then immerse it in cold water for 30 seconds. Try the stay on the patient and check the fit. If further adjustments are necessary, make sure to heat only the part of the stay that needs to be adjusted. The stay has a built-in memory. If fully reheated, it will go back to its original 15-20° position. Avoid burn injuries! Do not apply a hot stay directly to the patient's skin. Use a stockinette to cover the skin when making adjustments to the stay.

  6. Otto Bock Functional Wrist Stays are available in three levels of stability. The firm (red) stay is included. For more or less stability, blue or yellow stays are available for purchase. All stays are sold in 5-packs:
