Ottobock ProCarve Approved by IPC for Use in Competition

AUSTIN, Texas (January 26, 2017) – Ottobock announced that following rigorous testing in partnership with Tyrolia, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ski bindings, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing Technical Committee has approved the use of the Ottobock ProCarve knee joint and foot without a ski boot in competition.

Testing was conducted to confirm the ProCarve meets the same standards as ski boots for binding attachment and release.

Launched in 2014, the ProCarve has quickly become a leading ski prosthetic solution used by skiers and snowboarders to provide an alternative to mono-skiing or skiing with a single leg using outriggers. The ProCarve foot can be used as an independent component or in combination with the ProCarve knee joint. It is designed with adaptable damping that is adjusted for each user’s ability and style. The ProCarve can also be used by those with an above-knee or below-knee amputation in water activities such as wakeboarding and waterskiing, following recommended safety guidelines.

The ProCarve can be seen at the upcoming IPC World Para Snowboarding Championship January 31 – February 8 at the Big White Ski Resort in British Columbia, Canada. In additional to providing technical service for competitors at the event, Ottobock will be onsite offering clinics for those interested in trying the ProCarve and learning more.
