Questions and answers on our knee joints’ Intuitive Stance
Feel the difference – stable and healthy standing
When it comes to choosing a microprocessor knee joint, users first examine various models for their suitability with regard to activities of daily life and recreation, especially for instance those that require extended standing. A few questions that offer insight into Intuitive Stance can be found below.
-
What are the benefits of a microprocessor-controlled knee joint with Intuitive Stance compared to a joint without this function?
The Intuitive Stance offered by our microprocessor-controlled knee joint makes it possible to evenly distribute your body weight between both legs while standing, without compensating movements. This allows comfortable and stable standing while relieving strain on the back and sound side.
-
Intelligent knee joints are said to “recognize” the prosthesis wearer's movement patterns. What exactly does that mean in terms of Intuitive Stance?
Sensors in the joint analyze the movement patterns in order to put what is “learned” into practice. Thanks to Intuitive Stance, the knee recognizes whether you want to remain standing or initiate your next step. It activates the required resistance while standing so that your weight can be distributed evenly between both legs.

Which Ottobock microprocessor-controlled knee joints offer Intuitive Stance?
Intuitive Stance is integrated into the C-Leg 4, Genium, and X3. The Kenevo offers this function in activity mode C.
-
How do I activate and deactivate Intuitive Stance in my Kenevo, C-Leg 4, Genium, or X3?
Activation is simple. As soon as you briefly assume a flexed position, the joint “recognizes” that you are standing and therefore remains locked. To deactivate the function, simply take a step or move the prosthesis.
-
Does Intuitive Stance have to be set by my prosthetist?
Intuitive Stance is preset in the Genium and X3. However, your O&P professional can switch to Deliberate Stance on request. Intuitive Stance is preset in the C-Leg 4 as well. Your technician can change this to Manual Stance on request. You can activate/deactivate the chosen stance function in the C-Leg 4, Genium, and X3 using the Cockpit app or remote control.
The Kenevo features Intuitive Stance in activity mode C.
-
What is the difference between Manual Stance and Intuitive Stance in the C-Leg 4?
With Intuitive Stance, the joint recognizes that you want to stand and responds immediately with high damping. This makes relaxed standing with a slightly flexed knee possible. Manual Stance is consciously activated or deactivated in several steps. Your O&P professional can explain how this works in detail.

What is the difference between Deliberate Stance and Intuitive Stance in the Genium and X3?
With Intuitive Stance, the Genium and X3 recognize that you want to stand and respond immediately with high damping. This makes relaxed standing with a slightly flexed knee possible. Deliberate Stance is consciously activated or deactivated in several steps. Your O&P professional can explain how this works in detail.
-
Can I use the Cockpit app or remote control to switch between the stance functions in my C-Leg 4, Genium, and X3?
You and your O&P professional decide which stance function is suitable for you. You can use the Cockpit app or remote control to turn this preset stance function on and off. However, switching to an alternative stance function is not possible with the app or remote control.
